About
THE TOWN TO TRAILS PLAN

The Towns to Trails Plan is a feasibility and data-gathering study that analyzed existing infrastructure connecting approximately 350 miles of existing roads and trails spanning from Lone Pine to South Lake Tahoe, linking front county towns in Alpine, Mono, and Inyo Counties along the way.

Conducted from December 2022 - April 2025, this effort has gathered the data necessary to recommended a conceptual alignment that uses existing infrastructure and maintains existing allowable uses from South Lake Tahoe to Lone Pine.

The idea for the Towns to Trails Project came out of the Sustainable Recreation & Tourism Initiative in early 2022.

THE ALIGNMENT

The Towns to Trails Alignment is available as an ArcGIS Storymap HERE.

FINAL REPORT

The Towns to Trails Final Report is available as a pdf.

NEXT STEPS

Please review the final report for additional information about recommended next steps, which include: studying alignment gaps; conducting further environmental analysis; ongoing community, agency, and tribal engagement; establishing trail identification/blazing;  identifying an approach/resource for maintenance; and integrating wildfire resilience into trail planning.
